Global Crises

PAKISTAN:

20th December 2005

We have had an email from Haroon Lal Din advising of a website where you can see up to date photographs of the damage caused by the recent earthquake in Pakistan.  Should you wish to view these photos please click on any of these link sites.  All the photographs were taken by David Jeffery who has been assisting in the relief operation.

ANGOLA:

The rebuilding process is gaining pace in Angola, and we have been able to help with the rebuilding of some facilities at Kazombo Mission. This was largely destroyed during the war and it is planned to build a house and accommodation for the clinic, so that returning refugees from surrounding countries can get some medical care.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO:

We continue to see reports from the north-east of Congo, where several North American missionaries have been caught up in the ethnic conflict in the Bunia area. Since the arrival of UN forces, the situation seems to be quieter, but is far from resolved. This is not affecting any of the personnel from the UK serving in the south of the country, and the situation in the Shaba Province remains quiet. In the west of the Shaba, the UN are currently preparing to repatriate many Angolan refugees who have lived in Congo for several years, having fled from the Angolan war.
